Dracula’s Secret

Just like everyone else, I hold firm opinions on how to weed one’s closet. There are websites and books and professional organizers galore (not that I procrastinated or anything doing *ahem* research for this). But not one of them mentioned what I hold to be true.*

Own nothing that does not look superfantastic on you.

Do not wear it if you do not feel like you can conquer the world in it.

Try every single thing you have on. (You don’t have to do this all at once even though it is a highly satisfying experience.) If you don’t automatically pop one hip out and say, “Hell, yeah”, get rid of it. Donate it, re-tailor it, sell it on eBay – whatever. Do what you must to make sure that your clothes highlight your best feature, no matter what that feature maybe. If you have elegant graceful hands, rock those bracelets and cocktail rings and fluttery blouse cuffs.

If you are dealing with body hatred, this exercise could be uncomfortable. Breathe. Try only a few pieces on. Don’t push yourself.

And in the words of Oneangrygirl.net, “Start a revolution. Stop hating your body.”

Interesting idea – I might have to try that, one day when I don’t hate my body. :-)

  4. We should do a fashion show where we bring our whole closets and then do a catwalk where we crowdsource the keep it or ditch it decision.
